Social design is a method for building products, services, and systems that facilitate human interaction. This course will weave together theory and practice – we will examine the fundamentals in social psychology that inform great social experiences, and tactical design patterns that turn theory into action. The applied portion will focus on leveraging the Facebook Platform to build social apps that are optimized for growth and engagement.
Students will leave with a better understanding of human behaviour and how to build a successful app integrated with the Facebook Platform. By the end of the course, participants will have designed the news feed stories, authentication flow, and basic user experience for a mobile or web app. Additionally, they will leave with an arsenal of usable social design patterns that can be employed in any future app.
Participants should have a basic familiarity with the Facebook platform and the mechanics of APIs. Coding expertise is not required, but will come in handy.
